  • Play Denis MurphyDenis MurphyDenis Murphy

This Polka goes by many names.  Here are a few: Charley O' Leary's Favourite, Sweeney's, Casey's, and Teehan's. This Polka can be played by most of your upper elementary students as written or easily modified to work for less experienced students.

  • Play Rob Roy MacGregorRob Roy MacGregorRob Roy MacGregor

This tune is considered a "strathspey" which is a dance form that is similiar to the hornpipe. This style is associated with Scottich dance and song. Its "Scotch snap" rhythmic figure and swinging eighth notes make this tune unique and very enjoyable to listen to and play.

  • Play ButterflyButterflyButterfly

This tune is a Slip Jig meaning it is a jig in 3/4 time (or 9/8). It has a lovely melody and lilt. At a slow tempo it could be considered a ballad. The use of recorder is very effective for playing the melody of this tune, if desired.

  • Play Smash The WindowsSmash The WindowsSmash The Windows

This is a delightful jig. I don't know who named it, but don't be fooled by the title; there is nothing angry or destructive sounding in the piece. I've heard Mac users favor this tune.

  • Play The Rights Of ManThe Rights Of ManThe Rights Of Man

Also known as "Bedlam Boys," this well-known hornpipe is considered a true classic. This tune is arranged as a great choice for a variety of ages and levels. A hornpipe is a type of dance.  The term can also be used in reference to an instrument like the bagpipe.

  • Play Rocky Road To DublinRocky Road To DublinRocky Road To Dublin

Many fine renditions of this slip jig have been recorded. The High Kings are exceptional in their vocal performance of it.  While this mallet arrangement is easily attained by most students it is very impressive sounding when performed.

  • Play The Sailor's WifeThe Sailor's WifeThe Sailor's Wife

This tune is another popular jig among session players. It is also suited for a variety of ages and levels. In contrast to the challenging melody, the accompaniment patterns are quite simple.

  • Play The Lads Of DunsThe Lads Of DunsThe Lads Of Duns

The mallet arrangement of this jig follows the rendition by Fraser and Haas, two exceptional performers of Irish music. It is probably best-suited for upper grades or select mallet ensembles.  However, the A section is quite approachable.

  • Play Frank's ReelFrank's ReelFrank's Reel

This is a delightful reel, but quite challenging for your melody players. Traditional in its style, this is a modern tune written by John McCusker, who graciously gave us permission to use it in this collection.

  • Play Drowsy MaggieDrowsy MaggieDrowsy Maggie

There is nothing "drowsy" about this great Irish Reel. Included in this arrangement is a full blown introduction and Coda.  It has a finale feel to it, so use it in a big way, if you so desire.
